LUCKY 福 ? what is it ?
LUCKY 福
Chinese character 福 (“fook" in Cantonese, “foo” in Mandarin) seems to be everywhere in Hong Kong, be it jewellery brands, restaurant names, and especially so during Chinese New Year when it is decorating every little red envelope (Lai See) that you exchange with your family, colleagues, relatives. Its meaning is luck, good fortune and happiness.
It is also popular in Japan, where you may find it in a city name such as Fukushima （福島）or on daruma dolls aimed at making a wish.
We chose the lucky character for our first edition of notebooks and notecards designed as a tribute to our hometown Hong Kong because of the positive message it conveys, the kind wishes it addresses.
