Item details
Ever since the ancient Egyptians began to pound the stems of the water grown papyrus plant into thin sheets for use as a writing surface, paper has been a fascinating medium for people to unleash their creative energy. When the ancient Chinese refined and perfected the process in the second century BC, the importance of flat sheets of plant fibers to the human world was assured.
Paper has been used for so many purposes throughout the ensuing centuries that it is impossible to underestimate its impact on humanity. Although entirely unproven, I like to imagine that one day, a young person of some description, bored of their studies, began to shape the versatile surface in front of them into a three dimensional object. Maybe they intended it as a love token for the person of their desires, maybe it was a projectile to throw at a tutor when their back was turned. Whatever the start, origami has held a fascination for me ever since I can remember.
These paper earrings are made of a colour fast and slightly textured origami paper. The colour is dyed into the paper pulp so it extends through the entire paper, rather than being printed on the top, leaving one side blank. The earrings are finished with silver findings.
These earrings are splash proof but not waterproof. They should be removed and kept dry before getting into a shower or dashing out into monsoons or black rainstorms. They may need gentle reshaping after extended wear. The birds measure approximately 2 cm by 3.5 cm. They should be handled with some care.
